About Variegated String of Hearts Succulent

Introducing the breathtaking variegated String of Hearts succulent, showcased in a stunning hanging pot. The plant boasts delicate vines covered in heart-shaped leaves of green, pink, and purple, creating a mesmerizing cascade of color that will bring a touch of nature to any room. Native to South Africa, this plant is also known as Ceropegia woodii or Rosary Vine.

Variegated String of Hearts (VSOH) Care

Watering

Variegated String of Hearts is a drought-tolerant succulent doesn't require frequent watering, just be sure to allow the soil to dry out completely before the next watering. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so be careful not to give it too much water. 

 

Sunlight

Variegated String of Hearts thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate some shade. Be sure to keep it away from direct sunlight to prevent sunburn and damage to the leaves. 

 

Temperature

The Variegated String of Hearts succulent can withstand a wide range of temperatures, from 50°F to 90°F. It's best to keep it away from cold drafts and hot radiators.

 

Humidity

The Variegated String of Hearts plant prefers moderate humidity, around 40% to 50%. You can increase the humidity by placing a tray of water near the plant or by misting it regularly. 

 

Toxicity

Variegated String of Hearts is a toxic to cats, dogs and children, potentially deadly plant that can cause dermatitis and stomach upsets to those who come into contact with it. If your cats or dogs like to chew on plants, keep VSOH away from them because it is poisonous if they ingest the leaves.

 

Fertilizer

Feed your succulent every two to three weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer, diluted to half strength. Fertilizer is not required from November to March.

 

Growth Rate

The Variegated String of Hearts succulent grows slowly, so be patient. With proper care, it will grow longer and fuller over time. 

 

Propagation

Easily propagate The Variegated String of Hearts by taking stem cuttings with nodes and rooting them in water or soil. Simply cut a stem section with a few leaves and place the nodes in water or soil. In a few weeks, roots should start to form after a few weeks.

 

Soil Mix

The Variegated String of Hearts succulent prefers well-draining soil with orchid bark, so be sure to use a pot with a drainage hole.

 

Repotting

Repot every two to three years, or when it outgrows its current pot.

 

Common Pests

The variegated String of Hearts succulent is susceptible to mealybugs, spider mites, and scale insects. Check regularly for pests and treat promptly to prevent infestations.
